Convenience store, maintenance workshop and public ablutions for Sossusvlei Fuel and Service Station  owned by adjacent Taleni Lodge just outside National park entrance gates. in two earth-sheltered buildings using local stone gabions as retaining walls for ‘sand-dunes’ wrapping around from north side to keep interiors cool in summer & warm in winter. Other passive design features: thick roof insulation, cavity walls, large overhangs, & verandas. Clerestory windows for shaded daylighting and stack ventilation. Locally produced red clay brick from Mariental, natural reed ceilings & timber poles for shaded veranda to create rustic, natural feel. Indigenous landscaping.   Forms Phase 1 of future courtyard building  extending ablutions with larger retail component and management accommodation, when current convenience store will be expanded into  larger  maintenance workshop.
