This building combines a regional office, large training hall and storage for election equipment as well as the region’s voters’ registry. An articulated series of lobbies on the west entrance side distribute the various users to their destination and delineate the street edge while connecting the secure and public wings with an active outdoor courtyard. The courtyard provides an outdoor breakaway space for the training hall and separates it from the secure offices and archives. The roof-scape of steep north-facing roofs for solar panels allow for clerestory lighting and large shade overhangs.
Vertical circulation elements counterpoint lateral masses. As usual for this practice, passive design principles led massing, fenestration and selection of materials.
